Binance Investigates Potential $5.8 Billion Security Breach, Stablecoins Frozen
Cryptocurrency giant **Binance** is currently investigating a potential security breach that could involve up to $5.8 billion in digital assets, marking what could be the largest crypto heist in history. In response, stablecoin issuers **Tether** and **Circle** have proactively frozen over $2.3 billion in associated funds as the investigation unfolds.
The cryptocurrency exchange **Binance** is actively probing reports of a significant security incident that, if confirmed, could result in the theft of an unprecedented $5.8 billion in digital assets. This potential breach would dramatically overshadow previous records, including the $1.5 billion reportedly stolen from **Bybit** by North Korean hackers in February 2025.
In a statement, a **Binance** spokesperson affirmed that the exchange is investigating the reports while reassuring customers that their funds remain secure. "Our teams are aware of reports of a potential security issue and are actively investigating. Rest assured that user funds are completely safe," the spokesperson stated, adding that updates would be provided via official channels.
**Binance** also issued a warning to its users, urging caution against scams and unofficial communications seeking account information.
### Stablecoin Issuers Act Swiftly
In a coordinated response to the unfolding situation, major stablecoin issuers have taken swift action. **Tether** CEO **Paolo Ardoino** confirmed that the company has frozen over $1.567 billion in **USDT** linked to the potential **Binance** hack. Similarly, **Circle** CEO **Jeremy Allaire** announced the freezing of more than $800 million in **USDC** associated with the incident, emphasizing coordination with law enforcement and ongoing support for the investigation.
### Billions Transferred from Hot Wallets
The actions by **Tether** and **Circle** follow reports of massive cryptocurrency transfers from multiple **Binance** hot wallets to a newly established **Ethereum** address. Blockchain analysis by crypto journalist **StarPlatinum** indicated that a **Binance** hot wallet, identified as "Binance 14," transferred approximately $2.53 billion across 64 cryptocurrency tokens. This was quickly followed by another $174.4 million from a second **Binance** wallet, just 24 seconds later.
Further analysis suggested a third **Binance** hot wallet transferred an additional 780 million **USDC** to the same **Ethereum** address, bringing the reported total to approximately $3.48 billion in initial transfers.
Blockchain intelligence platform **Arkham Intelligence** is currently tracking 55 cryptocurrency addresses under the entity labeled "binance-hacker-1029," which collectively hold an estimated $5.78 billion. These assets include significant amounts of **USDT** ($1.77 billion), **Bitcoin** ($1.44 billion), **Ethereum** ($876 million), and **USDC** ($823 million).
Notably, the initial receiving **Ethereum** address has been labeled "Binance Hot Wallet Exploiter 2" by blockchain explorer **Etherscan**, assigned both "Exploit" and "Heist" tags.

It is important to clarify that **Arkham Intelligence**'s $5.78 billion figure represents the total value of assets across all tracked wallets, not a confirmed amount stolen from **Binance**. The exchange has not yet confirmed the unauthorized nature of these transfers, the method of the suspected breach, or the definitive total value of any assets that may have been compromised.
This is a developing story, and **Ghost Protocol** will provide updates as more information becomes available.
