Blackfield Ransomware Demands $2 Million from Japanese Manufacturing Giant Nidec
Japanese electronic components manufacturer **Nidec Corporation** is facing a $2 million ransom demand from the **Blackfield** ransomware gang. The attack targeted **Nidec Chaun Choung Technology**, a Taiwanese subsidiary, and has prompted emergency network shutdowns and an investigation into potential data exfiltration. This incident marks the second ransomware attack against **Nidec** in under two years.

The **Blackfield** ransomware gang has issued a $2 million ransom demand to **Nidec Corporation**, a leading Japanese manufacturer of electronic components for automotive and computing applications. **Nidec** is renowned globally for producing a vast array of motors, from micro-precision units in smartphones to heavy-duty systems for robotics and HVAC.
### Attack on Taiwanese Subsidiary
Last week, **Nidec** confirmed that its Taiwanese subsidiary, **Nidec Chaun Choung Technology**, had been compromised in a ransomware attack. The incident was detected on June 22, 2026.
**Nidec** stated, βOn Monday, June 22, 2026, ransomware-originated damage was confirmed in part of **Nidec Chaun Choung Technologyβs** server. Thereafter, to prevent the spread of the damage, emergency measures, including shutting down the affected server and network, were taken.β
The company also acknowledged a βpossibility of information leakβ but has not yet confirmed any personal or confidential data appearing online. Investigations are ongoing into the potential impact on production, shipping, and other business operations. **Nidec** currently does not anticipate the fallout extending to other **Nidec Corporation** or **Nidec Group** companies.
### Blackfield's Extortion Tactics
**Blackfield** has claimed responsibility for the attack, giving **Nidec** over 15 days to engage in negotiations. The threat actor is demanding $2 million to delete the allegedly stolen information. For an additional $5,000, **Blackfield** offers a one-day extension to the data leak deadline. The gang also provided a link to immediately download the exfiltrated data for a price of $400,000.

**Blackfield** has leaked samples of data, including file structures and various documents, to substantiate their claims of a data breach. However, the validity of this information has not been independently confirmed.
### A Recurring Problem for Nidec
This is not the first time **Nidec Corporation** has fallen victim to ransomware. In October 2024, the company confirmed a data breach following an attack on its Vietnam-based **Nidec Precision** division. That incident exposed over 50,000 sensitive files and was claimed by both the **8Base** and **Everest** ransomware gangs, who attempted to extort **Nidec** separately.
