EU Sanctions Pro-Russian Organizations for Disinformation Campaigns
The European Union has imposed sanctions on two pro-Russian organizations, **Euromore** and the **Foundation for the Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad (Pravfond)**, for allegedly spreading disinformation and supporting Moscowβs hybrid influence operations. The EU contends that these entities undermine democratic institutions and stability across the bloc and in Ukraine through information manipulation campaigns.
The European Union on Tuesday imposed sanctions on two pro-Russian organizations accused of spreading disinformation and supporting Moscowβs hybrid influence operations against Europe and Ukraine.
### Sanctioned Entities: Euromore and Pravfond
The measures target **Euromore**, a media outlet that EU officials say amplifies Kremlin narratives, and the **Foundation for the Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad (Pravfond)**, a Moscow-funded group accused of promoting propaganda aligned with Russiaβs foreign policy.
The **Council of the European Union** stated that these entities play a role in information manipulation campaigns designed to undermine democratic institutions, stability, and security across the bloc and in Ukraine.
### Euromore's Role in Disinformation
According to the EU statement, **Euromore** acts as an unofficial channel within the Kremlinβs information network, amplifying and recycling narratives that challenge the legitimacy of EU institutions and seek to justify Russiaβs war against Ukraine.
The EU noted that the platform regularly features contributors linked to conspiracy theories and disinformation. While much of **Euromoreβs** original content appears to have been removed, the domain remains active and now redirects to a site called **Euroview Media**, which republishes material from Russian state-backed outlets such as **RT** and **Sputnik**.
### Pravfond's Influence Operations
The bloc also sanctioned **Pravfond**, described by officials as an instrument of Russiaβs global influence operations. Founded and funded by the Russian state, the organization produces material that reinforces core Kremlin narratives, including claims that Ukraine has been βNazifiedβ and accusations that Russian-speaking populations are being systematically persecuted in neighboring countries.
EU authorities say **Pravfond** also channels financial support to actors tied to pro-Kremlin influence networks.
### Sanctions and Implications
Under the sanctions, any assets belonging to the two entities within the EU will be frozen. EU citizens and companies are also prohibited from providing them with funds or economic resources.
This action is part of the EUβs broader effort to counter Russian information manipulation and hybrid operations targeting Europe since the start of Moscowβs full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The EU has now imposed sanctions on 69 individuals and 19 entities linked to Russian hybrid warfare.
