High-Profile Telegram Channels Compromised: Black Mirror Claims Sobchak Data Leak
Several Telegram channels belonging to controversial Russian journalist **Ksenia Sobchak** were briefly hijacked last week, with attackers publishing alleged excerpts from her private correspondence. The hacker group **Black Mirror** has claimed responsibility, asserting they stole over 350 GB of Sobchak's data and are now offering it for sale.
Last week, the Telegram channels **Sobchak** and **Bloody Lady**, operated by prominent Russian media executive **Ksenia Sobchak**, were compromised by unknown hackers. Posts appeared on the channels, claiming to be private correspondence from Sobchak. Her news channel, **Caution, News**, later confirmed the channels had been compromised.
**Sobchak** stated that the attackers gained access via her email account and has since claimed the published correspondence was fabricated. In comments to the independent Russian outlet Meduza, she reiterated that the screenshots of her interactions were fake and published on her hijacked channel "to serve someone's interests."
### Black Mirror Claims Responsibility and Offers Data for Sale
The leaked materials prominently featured the watermark of the hacker group **Black Mirror**. The group subsequently claimed on its own Telegram channel to have exfiltrated more than 350 gigabytes of **Sobchak's** data, spanning from 2015 to 2026. This extensive archive is now reportedly being offered for sale.
**Black Mirror** published additional material on July 9, while the anonymous Telegram channel **VChK-OGPU** released what it claimed were voice messages from the same cache. The hackers allege that **Sobchak's** archive includes conversations with senior Russian officials, as well as **Andriy Yermak**, the former head of Ukraine's presidential office.
It is important to note that the authenticity of the leaked material and the hackers' claims could not be independently verified.
### A History of Targeting Russian-Connected Individuals
**Black Mirror** has been active since at least 2019, consistently marketing alleged data stolen from individuals connected to the Russian state. Previous targets include archives purportedly belonging to former Russian Defense Minister **Sergei Shoigu** and the late **Wagner** mercenary chief **Yevgeny Prigozhin**.
**Ksenia Sobchak** holds a complex position in Russian public life. She is the daughter of former St. Petersburg Mayor **Anatoly Sobchak**, who was a political mentor to President **Vladimir Putin** and a close family friend. **Sobchak** herself ran against **Putin** in the 2018 presidential election, though critics often viewed her campaign as a controlled opposition effort. She currently runs the **Ostorozhno Media** holding, which manages a YouTube channel and several Telegram news channels with millions of subscribers.
