Microsoft Force-Upgrading Unmanaged Windows 11 to Version 25H2
**Microsoft** has begun automatically upgrading unmanaged devices running **Windows 11** 24H2 Home and Pro editions to **Windows 11** 25H2. This upgrade is being pushed as **Windows 11** 24H2 nears its end-of-support date in October 2026.

**Microsoft** is now force-upgrading unmanaged devices running **Windows 11** 24H2 Home and Pro editions to **Windows 11** 25H2. This initiative is due to **Windows 11** 24H2 reaching its end of support on October 13, 2026, according to **Microsoft**'s Lifecycle Policy.
### Automatic Rollout
Also known as the **Windows 11** 2025 Update, **Windows 11** 25H2 began rolling out in September to eligible **Windows 10** or **Windows 11** devices as a minor update installed through enablement packages less than 200 KB in size.
"The machine learning-based intelligent rollout has expanded to all devices running Home and Pro editions of **Windows 11**, version 24H2 that are not managed by IT departments," **Microsoft** stated in a recent update to the **Windows** release health dashboard.
Devices remaining on version 24H2 will no longer receive critical updates. "Devices running these editions will no longer receive fixes for known issues, time zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats," the company added.
The upgrade to **Windows 11**, version 25H2, will occur automatically when the system is ready. Users can choose when to restart their device or postpone the update.
### Manual Upgrade Option
Users who prefer not to wait for the automatic upgrade can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings > **Windows** Update and clicking the link to download and install **Windows 11** 25H2.
### Pausing Updates
If an immediate upgrade is not desired, updates can be paused via Settings > **Windows** Update. Users can select the duration for which they'd like to pause updates; however, the latest updates must be installed once the pause period expires.

### Recent Emergency Updates
Since the March 2026 Patch Tuesday updates, **Microsoft** has released several emergency updates, including one addressing a known issue that broke sign-ins with **Microsoft** accounts across multiple **Microsoft** apps, such as **Teams** and **OneDrive**.
Out-of-band updates were also pushed for hotpatch-enabled **Windows 11** Enterprise devices, resolving a **Bluetooth** device visibility issue and security vulnerabilities in the Routing and Remote Access Service (**RRAS**) management tool.
