Microsoft Halts Windows 11 Updates for Dell Devices Due to Performance Issues
Microsoft has temporarily blocked the latest Windows 11 security updates for a subset of **Dell** devices. This preventative measure comes after reports of unexpected shutdowns, poor performance, and increased heat, stemming from an incompatibility between a recent Windows update and a critical **Intel** driver.

**Microsoft** is currently preventing the rollout of its latest **Windows 11** security updates to certain **Dell** devices. This decision follows reports from users experiencing significant performance degradation and unexpected system shutdowns.
### The Root of the Problem
The issue specifically affects **Dell** systems running **Windows 11 25H2** and **24H2** after installing the **KB5101650** cumulative update, released this Tuesday. However, the underlying cause traces back to a change introduced in the **June 2026 KB5095093 preview cumulative update**.
This preview update created a conflict between the new Windows USB-C Connection Manager interface and the **Intel Innovation Platform Framework (IPF) Processor Participant driver**.
### Impact on Affected Devices
**Microsoft** elaborated on the symptoms, stating, "After installing the June 23, 2026, Windows preview update (KB5095093), a limited number of Dell devices might display a yellow exclamation point in Device Manager next to the Intel Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant driver."
These affected devices could then "potentially experience unexpected shutdowns, poor performance, increased heat, and battery drain."

The **Intel IPF Processor Participant driver** is a fundamental system-level component responsible for managing system power and thermal performance by dynamically adjusting the processor's cooling and power consumption. The incompatibility manifests as a yellow exclamation mark next to this driver in Device Manager.
### Ongoing Resolution Efforts
**Microsoft** is actively collaborating with **Dell** to develop a resolution. In the interim, the **KB5101650** update will not be pushed to the identified affected systems.
"Microsoft plans to release a resolution for affected devices in the coming days," the company confirmed in an update to its Windows release health dashboard.
### Recent Fixes from Microsoft
This incident follows other recent **Microsoft** fixes. In recent weeks, the company resolved a bug that caused the **Copilot Chat** or **Copilot** buttons to disappear from **Classic Outlook** for **Windows** users with the **Copilot Chat (Basic)** license.
Earlier this month, **Microsoft** also addressed issues with **GIF** functionality in the **Emoji Panel** for **Windows 11** users, which arose after **Google's Tenor GIF** search engine retired its API.
